1. From Camden EBP literature:
"Vocational course support at GCSE
and A level.....[you can] provide an
input by making presentations on your area of expertise......or
acting as a
workshop presenter at one of our student conferences."
"Many students are ...on these courses [and] often have to
complete
assignments and case studies based on actual business..."
"Most vocational course support consists of one-off events
and your
involvement could be anything from half an hour to a full day once
or twice
a year."
2. From Business Dynamics:
"Business Awareness (Year 11 &
above; groups of 30 students) -
A two-day programme with the aim of giving

understanding of business .... Through a tailored programme of 6-8
interactive seminars, students gain a practical understanding of
key areas,
such as : marketing and sales........Seminar leaders from different
business sectors bring their knowledge and enthusiasm into the classroom
to take part in the programme."
Partners in Leadership:
From Business in the Community (BITC) literature:
"Partners in Leadership is a national scheme,
supported and funded by the National College for Schools Leadership.
It pairs a Headteacher with a senior business leader, working together
on the head teacher's agenda to discuss matters related to management
and leadership. It is strategically very significant and of the
highest quality, whilst requiring a relatively small amount of time.
"There are currently over 5000 pairs, involving
over 800 companies, throughout England and Wales.
'Persons sought from business are those in senior
management posts, comparable with a Headteacher, with sufficient
age and experience to retain credibility, open-minded and flexible,
and enthusiastic and positive-minded. Business partners undertake
a 2-hour BITC briefing session and are then matched with, and introduced
to, a Headteacher. The partnership runs for a year and it is expected
that partners will meet for up to two hours per half term, i.e.
approximately six times per year."
Comments from Headteachers on how the scheme has helped
them include:
"Identifying a vision for the school"
"Continually challenged me to step back and think about the
way forward."
"Allows both parties to see things from another perspective."
Presenting Yourself
Days:
From Islington EBP literature:
"We aim to increase
the understanding of the 'world of work' and raise
employability skills.
We do this through various programmes. These include:
Presentation skills in students are developed in 'Presenting
Yourself
Days'. On these days we look for facilitators from business to work
with
a group of 18 year old school leavers to develop or refine CVs,
fill in
application forms and take part in a mock interview. We look for
young
people from business as the experience helps them develop people
management skills."
